International Opera Awards Nomination

Gil Rose's Odyssey Opera has been nominated for the "Best Rediscovered Work" category of the International Opera Award. This is for their rendition of Anthony Davis' "X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X."

The orchestra's production of the Pulitzer-prize winning composer's first opera was part of their "As Told By: History, Race, and Justice on the Opera Stage" series, the most extensive and ambitious presentation of opera by Black composers to ever take place in the US.

Under the watchful eye of Rose, the production - first of five in the series - was nominated in this year's Awards, which will be held at the Teatro Real de Madrid on Nov. 28, 2022.

The "As Told By" series is a set of five operas that depict vital figures of Black liberation across 250 years of history. This was made possible in partnership with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and included performances from Davone Tines as Malcolm X, Ronnita Miller as ella, Whitney Morrisson as Louise, and Joshua Conyers as Reginald.
